四、产业特点/重点项目

Projects

1, Start project 'VALKENBURG DEVELOPES EAST'

Identify opportunities

The historic center and shopping area in Valkenburg have undergone a major facelift in recent years. The next step is now the redevelopment of Valkenburg - East, in particular the Walramplein – Berkelplein area. Living, business and recreation come together here, but there are still many opportunities to improve the cohesion, quality and accessibility of this area. That is why we want to develop a vision for this. How can we make the area as a whole more attractive and what are the different needs?

Dear Hunter starts research on location

We have now started a number of studies that form an important basis for the final area vision. In July, Dear Hunter's mapmakers start an on-site investigation. Marlies Vermeulen and Remy Kroese of Dear Hunter stay in two containers on Walramplein for two months. By being present on the spot, they can study and map the local assignments. They like to get in touch with the residents, entrepreneurs and visitors. They would like to know from you which areas are valued by you and why? What do you think are hidden gems and where do you see opportunities? Marlies and Remy will be happy to discuss this with you at the containers on Walramplein.

2, Polfermolen

The Polfermolen is a multifunctional center with multiple facilities for the residents of the municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul. The Polfermolen costs the municipality € 1.8 million per year. That is a lot of money for our municipality. In 2016, the city council therefore decided to cut back € 1.2 million. This cut must be realized by 2021.

A plan for the future of the Polfermolen has been drawn up to fill in this cut. In it, a number of facilities - whether or not in a slimmed-down form - will continue to exist, and houses will be built around the complex.

Council decision 21 May on the future of the Polfermolen

Swimming facility

The tender requests to provide insight into the annual costs for a swimming facility of 8 by 15 meters and one of 8 by 25 meters with variable bottom height and temperature. The final choice for the size and nature of the swimming facility depends on the annual operating costs.

Current users

Associations that currently use the Polfermolen and will soon no longer be able to use the Polfermolen because of the new plans, should not lose out. The municipality will consult with these associations. Appropriate alternative solutions and, if necessary, financial compensation will be sought with them. This support strives for a balanced relationship with the support for all associations in our municipality. The city council will take a final decision on this in December.

The schedule is as follows:

After the summer holidays: determine final tender to market parties.

December 2019: determine the outcome of the tender and award and determine the results of alternative solutions for current users.

2020: Elaborate detailed planning and preparation work

Early 2021: Start of work

3, Boslust wellness hotel

There are plans to develop the neo-Gothic style former Jesuit monastery from 1893 into a wellness hotel. The complex, known to the locals as Klooster Boslust, was purchased by Amsterdam-based project developer Development Fund. This future hotel is situated on a beautiful plot of approximately 7 ha, including a large slope forest. The building is characteristic of the town of Valkenburg.

4, Buitengoed Geul & Maas

The municipalities of Maastricht, Meerssen and Valkenburg aan de Geul Geul have, together with the Province of Limburg, drawn up an area vision for spatial, economic and social development of the rural area between the three municipalities with the name Buitengoed Geul & Maas. Based on the area vision, projects are developed in this area by estate owners, entrepreneurs, municipalities and their inhabitants.

Through joint efforts, Buitengoed Geul & Maas will become an economically strong area that has a lot to offer residents and visitors. Residents and visitors can enjoy peace, greenery, history and water in the Geul & Maas Buitengebied. You can cross the Buitengoed on foot and by bicycle. Numerous hiking and cycling trails are being constructed for this purpose.

More information can be found at www.buitengoedgeulmaas.nl.

5, Hotel Croix de Bourgogne with outbuildings

The realization of Hotel Croix de Bourgogne, with its two annexes, is a special project. For Valkenburg, but certainly also for 2Rocks as a developer and investor. Valkenburg will soon have a unique square, surrounded by only marl buildings. The project has been developed with ambition and will contribute to the new impetus of Valkenburg aan de Geul. The grandeur of yesteryear returns in the heart of Valkenburg. We have taken a new direction with the development of the shopping center, the redesign of the public space and the strengthening of the fortified city of Valkenburg. The hotel with its annexes fits in with this and is a beautiful contemporary representation of the grandeur of yesteryear.

Quality first

The plans were designed by Wiel Arets Architects. The plans put quality first, both visually and architecturally. A city like Valkenburg aan de Geul has a certain image quality and appearance. The plans fit in perfectly with the desired quality for Valkenburg. Regional materials (marl, natural stone) enhance the recognizable Valkenburg look and experience.

Effects of hotel development

In addition to the urban repair that comes with the reconstruction / new construction, the development also offers other opportunities. The development on the Theodoor Dorrenplein will give a powerful boost to the tourist-recreational and economic strength of Valkenburg. The realization of the intended development provides a direct boost for employment, consisting of approximately 60 structural workshops. The starting point is a hotel of 4-5 star level, with approximately 85 rooms including a restaurant and approximately 200m² retail. In addition, the development indirectly provides a further boost for employment by strengthening the position of the entire shopping area. This project also provides a direct impulse for the construction sector.

Background

On 30 June 2009, the Council of the Municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul adopted the “Hart voor Valkenburg” center plan. The rebuilding of Hotel Croix de Bourgogne was one of the 29 decision points. The zoning plan resulting from the 2009 council decision provides for the restoration of the most prominent places in the heart of the city center (the so-called Zink plot, the head of the Dr. Erensflat and the Croix de Bourgogne location).

Until 1944, what was now called “Croix de Bourgogne” was a renowned hotel. The reconstruction of the hotel in its historical form helps to strengthen the cultural, recreational and tourist function of the municipality of Valkenburg. The two outbuildings (location Zink and head Dr. Erensflat) complete the urban repair.

6, Experience center Par'Course

Par'Course is the new experience center developed by project developer Wyckerveste in the former Leeuw brewery in Valkenburg. This development is made possible in part by the municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul and the Province of Limburg.

Food XP and Cycle XP

The plan for the major renovation and new construction was designed by MoederscheimMoonen Architects. Par'Course roughly rests on two pillars: Food XP and Cycle XP. Food XP will have a place in the monumental brewery building and will develop into a gastronomic center.

The backbone of the Cycle XP is formed by three pillars:

Design hotel Black Label

The European Shimano Experience center

Cycle Center, a large Valkenburg bicycle rental company.

The Shimano Experience center is an innovation in the field of customer experience. In this center it is possible to test products in the field of bicycle, rowing and fishing techniques, the three main product groups for Shimano, before a customer makes a purchase.

7, Pradoe building

The 'Pradoe building' is a national monument and has been empty for some time. It is a former monastery on the edge of the center of Valkenburg. The municipality wants to have the building repaired and redesigned into a special design hotel. The new hotel is a valuable and sustainable addition to the Valkenburg city center and its tourist infrastructure. The municipality has entered into a letter of intent with 3W Projects BV to sell the monument.

National monument

The building is partly in good condition, but also has clear signs of overdue maintenance. Due to its prominent location along the Oosterweg, the building largely determines the image of the center of Valkenburg. In addition, the former monastery is of general interest because of its architectural-historical qualities.

五、风景名胜,景点

These days Valkenburg is known for its tourist attractions, chalk houses (locally called mergel or marl) and the hilly countryside. The main sight are:

Valkenburg castle, of which only a ruin remains;

several other castles, castle farms and stately homes, mostly situated along the Geul river;

Oud-Valkenburg, a small village along the Geul with a particularly picturesque ensemble of a gothic church, two castles (Genhoes and Schaloen) and several historic farmsteads, all in local marlstone;

several watermills, two in the old town;

parts of the city walls and two of three city gates survived (Berkelpoort and Grendelpoort; there are plans for the third gate to be rebuilt);

old court building (Spaans Leenhof);

Saint Nicolas church, a Gothic church in Valkenburg with some late Medieval wood carvings;

Saint Gerlachus church in nearby Houthem Sint-Gerlach, with Baroque frescos by Johann Adam Schöpf, painted on marl;

several former marl quarries (locally called 'caves', although they are largely man-made), offering guided tours; some have interesting charcoal drawings and marl sculptures, one has been recreated as the catacombs of Rome (designed by Pierre Cuypers), another one as a coal mine; in the winter Christmas markets are held in some quarries;

a 30-metre-high (98-foot) viewing tower (Wilhelminatoren) atop a hill, connected to the town below by aerial lift;

Thermae 2000, a sauna and wellness resort;

a Holland Casino branch, as well as a large park around it (Kuurpark);

two amusement parks; one focusing on popular fairy tales (Sprookjesbos);

Valkenburg is situated in a part of the Netherlands that is known for its natural environment    and historical buildings. The area, although quite hilly, is perfectly suited for walks or (mountain) bike tours.

Cycling

Valkenburg aan de Geul is famous for its cycling events. The city has hosted the UCI Road Cycling World Championship a record five times, in 1938, 1948, 1979 and 1998 and again in 2012. Since 2003, the city's Cauberg hill has been the finish of the Amstel Gold Race. The Tour de France had a stage finish in Valkenburg in 1992 and in 2006.

The Cauberg Cyclo-cross is a cyclo-cross race and a part of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup.

六、历史文化

Sieges and conquests have been the recurrent theme in the history of Valkenburg, especially in connection with Valkenburg castle, seat of the counts of Valkenburg (or Falkenburg). It was here that Beatrice of Falkenburg grew up, who, in 1269 at the age of 15, married 60-year-old Richard of Cornwall, king of the Holy Roman Empire. In December 1672 the castle was once again destroyed by Dutch troops led by William III, trying to prevent the armies of Louis XIV of France from capturing it, this time not to be rebuilt.

In the 19th century, because of the natural environment of the area, Valkenburg became a holiday destination for the well-to-do in the Netherlands. Tourism developed, especially after in 1853 the railway from Maastricht to Heerlen and Aachen opened. Valkenburg railway station is the oldest surviving station in the Netherlands. In the beginning of the 20th century, Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers lived in Valkenburg for several years. He helped develop tourism by designing a hotel, an open-air theater and a copy of the catacombs of Rome. He also restored the medieval church and designed several tombs and a chapel in Gothic Revival style in a graveyard situated on Cauberg, a steep hill outside the town center.

During the Second World War Valkenburg was occupied by Nazi-Germany for four years, four months and one week. The town was liberated on 17 September 1944 by the American 30th Infantry Division. They were greeted with tulips and bread. For an overview of the resistance movement in Valkenburg during the war, see Valkenburg resistance.

Valkenburg is no longer a fortified town but it has largely retained its historical charm, although the town suffered heavily from mass tourism in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. The municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul still hosts more than 1 million overnight stays a year. The present aim of the council of Valkenburg is to move away from mass tourism and emphasize "the natural and historical beauty of the town".[citation needed] In order to attract more "quality tourism" a plan was made called Vestingstad Valkenburg (Fortification Town Valkenburg). Included in the plan were the rebuilding of Geulpoort, a 14th-century city gate that was demolished along with the castle in the 17th century, the restoration of two other surviving city gates, and the reconstruction of the defensive moat along the Medieval wall in Halderpark. More or less simultaneously initiated was the redevelopment of the town's shopping district, to be finished in 2016.

Surrounding the impressive castle ruin and above the ancient corridors is the charming, medieval city center full of terraces and shops. Surrounded by a 5-star landscape, peace and nature are never far away.
