Ylöjärvi is a town and a municipality in the Pirkanmaa region, 14 kilometres (9 mi) west of Tampere and 189 kilometres (117 mi) north of Finland's capital city Helsinki.
The town has a population of 32,962 (31 January 2019) and covers an area of 1,324.14 square kilometres (511.25 sq mi) of which 208.62 km2 (80.55 sq mi) is water. The population density is 29.55 inhabitants per square kilometre (76.5/sq mi). The population has increased rapidly in recent years, in 1990 it was slightly over 18,000. On 31 December 2011 it was 30,942.
Neighbouring municipalities are Hämeenkyrö, Ikaalinen, Kihniö, Nokia, Parkano, Ruovesi, Tampere and Virrat.
The municipality of Viljakkala was consolidated with Ylöjärvi on January 1, 2007. The municipality of Kuru was consolidated with Ylöjärvi on January 1, 2009.

Ylöjärvi is a rural town. It does not have a clear center: the Tampere – Vaasa highway and the Tampere – Seinäjoki railway divide the municipality's downtown area into two distinct parts, the church village and Soppeenmäki. Other parts of Lake Ylöjärvi include Asuntila, Vuorentausta, Siivikkala, Metsäkylä, Haavisto, Kuru, Viljakkala, Vahanta, Takamaa and Mutala.

Ylöjärvi is located northwest of Tampere on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi and is part of the Tampere metropolitan area and the center of Tampere. The distance to Tampere is 14, to Helsinki 189 and to Turku 164 kilometers. The Tampere – Seinäjoki line, highway 3 from Tampere to Vaasa and main road 65 from Ylöjärvi to Virra run through Ylöjärvi. The railway, completed in 1971, has no passenger seats in the Ylöjärvi area, so buses handle all public transport.

The most well-known companies in Ylöjärvi include Avant Tecno and Huurre Group Oy's refrigerated furniture factory. Plastiroll Oy manufactures garbage and bio bags as well as garbage bags.
In the legal field near the Hämeenkyrö border, Outokumpu Oy 's Paroinen copper mine operated in 1943–1966, which was one of the municipality's most significant employers at the time. 1. Teivo racetrack
Teivo racetrack is a Tampere racetrack located in the town of Ylöjärvi in the Vihattula district. The track was completed in 1976 and the auditorium buildings a year later. Teivo is Finland's second largest racetrack after Vermo in terms of sales of toto games and the number of trotting competitions.
In Teivo, food is held every Tuesday all year round, except for a few weeks. Every year, Teivo hosts the Criterion of warm-blooded and Finnish horses. The royal food in Teivo was organized in 1978, 1995 and 2011. Teivo has also served five times the competition venue of the European Trotting Union of UET 's organized by UET Grand Prix for. Among other things, agricultural exhibitions have been organized in the area.
The Teivo racetrack is located next to Teivaalanharju in the area that originally belonged to Teivaala Manor. Kartano and Harju have also given it their name, for the first couple of years the racetrack was called Lamminpää racetrack. The name Teivo was introduced in 1979. 2. Puuvuori Tree Mountain Art Installation
Puuvuori is an environmental work of art in Pinsiö in Ylöjärvi. It was designed by Agnes Denes and completed in 1996.
10,600 pines have been planted on the artificial, 28 m high, conical gravel mountain of Puuvuori according to a mathematical formula. The base pattern is an ellipse with diameters of 420 m and 270 m.
The place of Puuvuori is a gravel pit used by the aggregate supplier Rudus Oy. The work is related to the landscaping of the gravel site. Artist Agnes Denes designed the country art work Puuvuori in 1982.
The work was unveiled at the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro on June 5, 1992. It was inaugurated as a work of art on June 14, 1996. That is when President Martti Ahtisaari planted the last tree of the work.
The construction of the work was the responsibility of the city of Ylöjärvi together with Rudus and the background has been the Strata working group. The work has been supported by the UN and the Finnish Ministry of the Environment. Pines were planted by, among others, student groups and the Ylöjärvi municipality youth workshop. A separate title person was chosen for each pine in the work. These include heads of state, among others. 3. Ylöjärvi Church
Ylöjärvi Church was completed in 1850 on the basis of drawings prepared by the curatorial office to replace the old wooden church that burned down in 1842. The current Empire-style church is in the form of a west-towered one-armed cruciform church with chamfered inner corners. Opposite the tower, at the eastern or altar end, is a sacristy lower than the other frame room. The church was repaired or renovated in 1904, 1907, 1927, 1928 and 1966. The bell tower has two bells with casting years of 1843 and 1860.
The church's original 10-voice organ was built by BA Thule in 1886, and was thoroughly renovated by the Kangasala Organ Factory in connection with the 1927 renovations. The current 14-voice organ is also the handwriting of the Kangasala Organ Factory, and was built in 1957.
The church altarpiece of The Crucifixion was painted by RW Ekman in 1870.

Ylöjärvi Chapel Parish was founded in 1779 by separating it from Pirkkala. The parish became independent in 1895, but the separation from Pirkkala did not finally materialize until the turn of the 20th century. The first church in Ylöjärvi, on the site of the present church, had been completed in 1781 and was destroyed in a lightning fire in 1842. Ylöjärvi countryside was founded in 1869. Ylöjärvi's first primary school began operations in 1871; before that, the municipality had served as assessor Gabriel Ahlmana revolving parish school from 1811. After the Continuation War, a Kaukola migrant population was settled in Lake Ylöjärvi. Agriculture and forestry remained Ylöjärvi's main industry for a long time, until the municipality began to industrialize rapidly after the last wars. In 1951, the Hämeen Työläisnuoriso College began operations in Ylöjärvi, and its name was soon changed to Voionmaa College, according to Professor Väinö Voionmaa. The municipality became a city at the beginning of 2004.

Ylöjärvi has many cultural annual celebrations, such as 24.1. Ylöjärvi Day, National Veterans Day and Independence Day celebrations. Leisure services organize a New Year's reception for the whole family on 31 December. In addition to exhibition activities, Old Räikä has concerts, poetry events, children's events and group singing evenings.
In January, during the Ylöjärvi Day, a light art event Loiste Ylöjärvi will be held. In February, it is the turn of Pirkanmaa-wide children 's culture month Children 's Pirkkaset.

The summer traditionally begins with the chamber music festival KuruFest and the Pöheikön Pönäs organized by Rantajätjät ry. The Viljakkala summer starts with the Haveri Machine Days organized by Haveri ry.
The biggest children's events are Tenavien Tohinat, Children's Museum Day and Kuru Week Children's Festival. Räikkä Raikaa, on the other hand, is a traditional group singing event. Cottage Rock is a free picnic festival for the whole family.
Kuru Week is traditionally celebrated in mid-July. The Vikelä windmill will be held from home regions on the last Wednesday of July.
In August, City Hall Square will be conquered by City Jazz. The August Ylöjärvi Old Houses event invites you to visit interesting and historical sites around the city. In mid-September, the city, under the leadership of the Ylöjärvi Society, will organize the Räikän fire in Räikänpuisto.
Summer theater activities are at the Ylöjärvi Museum and the Viljakkala School, organized by the Theater Association Wimma. Saurio Theater usually organizes theater performances in May in the Saurio courtyard of Kulttuurosuuskunta.

Eppu Normaali is one of Finland’s most famous pop rock bands. It started in Ylöjärvi as a new wave punk band in 1976, but its music changed from the early years of punk to a more melodic direction. In the 1980s, the band’s style approached that of pop music. The city prides itself on the band and has many sculptures and attractions centered around the band and Finnish music.
Eppu Normaali is one of Finland's most popular active rock bands. The band has released a total of 15 studio albums, ten of which have sold platinum and five gold. In total, the band has sold more than 1.5 million records and its double collection, Repellinen hits, is Finland's second best-selling record of all time.
In front of Ylöjärvi City Hall is Kimmo Schroderus' work Alamökki, which honors Eppu Norma and was unveiled in 2018.
