1.历史

 5.png

Närpes is first mentioned in 1331, when Klas Bengtsson in "Nærpes" mortgaged his estate in Finby to Bishop Bengt in Turku for 80 marks due to a debt. In 1348, King Magnus Eriksson then granted "allom, such as boo in Nerpis parish, Mustasaari parish and Pedersöre parish" the right to sell and buy "all eating goods", that is, to trade in food. In this way, the first three official marketplaces in Ostrobothnia were founded.

Närpes parish is one of Ostrobothnia's three earliest, which is believed to have been established as early as the 13th century. During the Middle Ages, Närpes parish stretched from Sideby in the south to Petalax in the north - 130 km along the Ostrobothnian coast. The area was seen as part of Satakunda or Kumogård County. In 1605 a border adjustment was made, and then Närpes was transferred to Korsholm County and became part of Ostrobothnia.

Närpes Church is a cruciform church of gray stone, which began to be built in the 1550s. Around it are about 150 church stables. The oldest of the church stables that have been preserved were built in the late 18th century. In the vicinity of the church there is also a parish magazine, parish cottage and rectory, which makes the area a historic church environment.

The municipality of Närpes was formed in 1867. On 1 January 1973, the municipalities of Övermark, Pörtom in their entirety and areas of Korsnäs comprising 522 people in the municipality of Närpes. In 1975, parts of northern Pörtom were transferred to the municipality of Malax. Närpes became a city on 1 January 1993 by order of President Mauno Koivisto on 13 November 1992. Korsnäs officially became an independent municipality from Närpes in 1887, but in reality it had already happened in 1868.
