Ikaalinen became an independent municipality in 1641. The associated market town was founded in 1858. The market town and the municipality were united in 1972 and Ikaalinen became a town in 1977.

Most of Ikaalinen belongs to the Kyrösjärvi water area, but some lakes in the eastern part of the municipality flow into Lake Näsijärvi. Ikaalinen is located in the middle of the old Upper Satakunta, and for centuries, until the 1990s, it belonged to the province of Satakunta and the provinces of Turku and Pori. In that case, due to the growing influence of Tampere, the municipalities of Upper Satakunta became part of the province of Pirkanmaa and the province of Häme. Traffic in the area is mainly directed to Tampere, and there is talk in the region of the Upper Satakunta dialect of the Häme dialects. Among the neighboring municipalities of Ikaalinen are also the northern Parkano and the western Kankaanpää, which belonged to the former Suur-Ikaalinen. Other large neighboring municipalities are southern Hämeenkyrö and eastern Ylöjärvi. Tampere is more than 50 kilometers from Ikaalinen.
Seitseminen National Park extends to the northern part of Ikaalinen from the Ylöjärvi (former Kuru) side. The highest terrain in the city, almost 200 meters above sea level, is located in the northeastern part of the village of Juhtimäki. The southern part of Ikaalinen is dominated by the Hämeenkangas ridge section, the highest point of which is the Vatulanharju, which reaches 188 meters above sea level. 2.Ikaalinen Church
The Church of the Cabbages, also known as the Church of Fredrika Sophia, is apparently the third church in the locality in order. It was built on the basis of plans by Stockholm architect Thure G. Wennberg and was completed in 1801. The previous, long wooden church, located on the western edge of the present cemetery, was built in the 1640s and demolished in poor condition in 1824. The church was built by the well-known Ostrobothnian church builder Salomon Köhlström.The then pastor Henrik Bergroth consecrated the church on August 4, 1801. The church is an internally chamfered cruciform church with an east-west main arm clearly longer than the cross arm. The church was thoroughly renovated in 1859–1860, when e.g. a new belfry was built, as well as a large rectangular and tent-roofed lantern structure on the crest of the church at the intersection of the branches.
The wall surface of each branch of the church is divided by two circular arched windows. There is also a third similar window in the corner bevels between them. The interior of the church has a wooden vault and a lantern light opening in the center, supported by four pillars. The altarpiece of the church is the Transfiguration of Christ from 1874, painted by Berndt Godenhjelm. The current pulpit of the church dates from the 1930s. Downstairs there is also an 18th century cup-shaped pulpit stored below the belfry.

六、历史文化
1.历史
Object discoveries have been made from all over Ikaalinen, which prove that the area was inhabited during the Stone Age. The permanent settlement has come to Ikaalinen, judging from the place name, from the south, from the direction of Karku and Hämeenkyrö, the core area of the ancient parish of Sastamala. According to tradition, Ikaalinen and Parkano were visited a mile away in Karku Church in ancient times. The Kyrösjärvi watershed and Hämeenkangas were many used routes, possibly another thousand years ago. Along the latter ran the historic Kyrönkankaantie from Häme to Ostrobothnia. The tradition of navigating the water was maintained by church boats until the early decades of the 20th century, and one church boat from Iika has been donated to the Seurasaari open-air museum in Helsinki.
Ikaalinen became independent from Hämeenkyrö in 1641 as his own parish, Ikaalinen Kyrök. Before that, Ikaalinen had been the chapel of Hämeenkyrö for more than a hundred years. The Ikaalinen parish thus formed also included the current Jämijärvi, Kankaanpää, Karvia, Kihniö, Parkano and Honkajoki. The first church in Ikaalinen was probably built in the Middle Ages. It was replaced in the 1640s by another church located in the area of what is now the northern cemetery, which is known to have been a long church with a faceted shell. There were two vestibules on the south side of the church and a sacristy on the north side. The present church was built between 1799 and 1801.
In the great years of death, 1696–1697, more than a thousand inhabitants of the parish are reported to have died in Ikaalinen, and the devastating consequences of the famine were compounded by the great anger that erupted a little later. During the winter of 1714, both Swedish and Russian troops passed through Ikaalinen on their way to Ostrobothnia. Also during the little hatred thirty years later, troops moved in the Ikaalinen region. The greatest money cache in Finland dates from these times, which was found in a field in the village of Vatsiainen in 1966. The find included 127 Swedish "brass plots" from 1711–1740, with a total weight of more than 211 kg.
At the end of the 1850s, Finland's economic development needed new shopping centers. Thus, in 1858, one large farm was separated from the municipality of Ikaalinen as a township of Ikaalinen. The charter was signed on April 21, 1858. The township established at that time comprised only the area now known as the Wanha township and which is now the district of the Old Town. Initially, there were only a few dozen residents, mostly well-off civil servants and other Swedish-speaking nobles. Ikaalinen was the oldest township in Finland, but it also remained the smallest. There was no need for an economic center in the area, and the nearby big city of Tampere took away people. Ikaalinen hardly developed at all; In the 1920s, the municipality of Ikaalinen had a population of about 12,500, but the town was barely 250. The position of Ikaalinen town was also hampered by the fact that it differed from other towns in that it was an independent town. Kauppa had only limited autonomy. The Ikaalinen rural municipality also taxed the township residents, who had the corresponding right to vote in municipal elections in both the township and the rural municipality. Kauppala's own tax revenues were very small, so the countryside granted subsidies annually, e.g. municipal engineering work. At the end of the 1960s, Ikaalinen was the only Finnish-speaking township in which the bourgeois parties had a 3/4 majority in the council. The parish of Ikaalinen included both the township and the countryside.
Still, there was also economic life in the area. The first spa establishment in the locality was established as early as 1884, and it received a school in 1902 as the first rural keeper in all of Finland. The school was still in Finnish. However, the Ikaalinen co-educational school did not become the leading educational institution until the early 1930s. Traffic connections also improved, so as the number of passengers increased, more and more people diverted to Ikaalinen Kirkonkylä on the shores of Lake Kyrösjärvi. Even today, the lively Tampere-Vaasa section of the third road runs just past the city. The railway was also sought after, both in the late 19th century and in the 1950s, there was a desire to make the Ostrobothnian railway run along the western shore of Lake Kyrösjärvi like roads, but this did not happen. The Tampere – Seinäjoki section of the new Ostrobothnia line cools through the sparsely populated eastern part of Ikaalinen, far from the city center, and its only traffic point in the Ikaalinen area. In terms of transport connections, the northern neighboring town of Parkano has drawn a much longer steep. The Haapamäki – Pori line, completed in 1938, bypasses the north-western border of Ikaalinen, but its significance for Ikaalinen was very small from the beginning. This section of track, which was decommissioned years ago, is only occasionally run by military trains between Parkano and Niinisalo. The long-running steamship traffic on Lake Kyrösjärvi ended in the late 1940s.
During the Civil War, the Ikaalinen township became one of the most important bases for whites on the Satakunta front, and fierce fighting took place in the region during February – March. The reds from Kyröskoski tried to take over the township and the church village. The township was already under siege until the whites, led by Colonel Ernst Linder, were supported by the Ostrobothnian auxiliaries who had arrived in Ikaalinen on March 10, 1918, pushed back to the Hämeenkyrö side and from there towards Tampere.
After the Second World War, the Ikaalinen township became more and more an unnecessary specialty. When the state began to grant city rights to municipalities and townships again after 1960, the twin Ikaalinen began to hone the municipal union. In 1972, the entire municipality of Ikaalinen was transformed into an independent township, which took on the coat of arms of the old Ikaalinen countryside. The population of the old independent township before reunification was still less than 800. This final phase lasted only five years, when, by government decision, all townships became cities from the beginning of 1977. Over the past 30 years, Ikaalinen has gradually become industrialized and its economic structure has become service-intensive. After the last wars, migrants from Kaukola and Pyhäjärvi were settled in Ikaalinen.

Market life is strongly part of Ikaalinen's local culture and is part of our identity. Tori is a common living room for Ikaalinen's own people, summer residents and visitors, where you will not only go shopping but also spend time and meet acquaintances. The market is located in the church square along Abrahaminkatu. The historical roots of the market go back to the cattle market, which began to be held in Ikaalinen in 1890 on the site of the current baseball field. Ikaalinen's market bathes in early summer in the glory of flowers, while in autumn berries, vegetables and roots abound in abundance. There are many types of clothing and belly filling. The market still has the market spirit of old times.
