Property of Louis Théodore David, mayor of Andernos from 1905 to 1929, abandoned after his death, it was acquired by the municipality and restored in 1978. Today a cultural center called "Maison municipale Louis-David", it houses the city museum where part of the remains found on the site of the Gallo-Roman ruins is kept, as well as a collection of old coins, municipal archives and manuscripts. It also hosts throughout the year numerous exhibitions of painting and plastic arts. 2) Antiquity and the Middle Ages: exhibition of Gallo-Roman and medieval objects discovered during excavations of the Gallo-Roman villa in 1903, on the Saint-Éloi site. Ancient photos tell the story of the discovery of this 2,000-year-old ancient building.

VI. History
Andernos has been inhabited since recent Prehistory, that is, for around 10,000 years. This occupation is evidenced by the discovery of thousands of objects on the banks and the mouth of the stream "Le Bétey". It is a major prehistoric site on the Atlantic coast.
In Gallo-Roman times, Andernos was an important city. The Gallo-Roman village was destroyed by the barbarian invasions. There are nevertheless vestiges of it, next to the Saint-Éloi church, not far from the oyster port. They were first interpreted as those of a basilica; but the latest research leans more towards those of a huge Gallo-Roman villa built near the coast.
For more information on the town in the 18th century, see the work of Jacques Baurein.
During the Revolution, the parish of Saint-Éloi d'Andernos formed the commune of Andernos.
The castle of Andernos, now a national asset, was located about 2 km from the church and the basin. It has completely disappeared, destroyed in 1845.
In 1851, a large portion to the north and northeast of the municipal territory acquired its autonomy to form the municipality of Ares.
The city of Andernos officially takes the name of Andernos-les-Bains by decree of December 13, 1897.
