Gyldenløveshøj has an altitude of 126 meters (413.4 ft), but that is due to a manmade hill from the 17th century. Its natural height is 121.3 meters (397.96 ft).

The church is placed high on Faxe Kalkbanke and can be seen widely. The large 40 m long building is a late medieval longhouse, build shortly before 1492, when the University of Copenhagen was handed over the church by a gift letter from King Hans - an ownership relationship that first ended in 1934.

Of extensions there is on the north side a sacristy, build roughly at the same time as the church, and partly a sizable chapel, which received an extensive expansion 1638-39. Between these extensions is a small burial chapel from the early 1600s. The tower with the elegant belt-walled white limestone strips is build approx. 1500th

The pulpit is from the 17th century, altar picture from 1717. There are frescoes in the porch.

In 2014, a major restoration of the church was made.

 Faxe Kalkbrud (Limestone quarry)

Address: Faxe kalkbrud, 4640 Faxe

The Faxe Limestone Quarry lies east of Faxe. Those who go down into the quarry, find themselves on a 63 million year old seabed, where sharks, crocodiles and squids swam among lovely corals.

These, along with countless other accumulated sea creatures and plant organisms, formed the limestone. Corals, shark's teeth, crabs and mussel shells are among the many fossils held by the limestone. The limestone was used for centuries as building material. In olden times, the farmers dug smaller lime pits, which were refilled after the limestone was broken up. Only in the mid-18th Century a primary quarry established by the manors Vemmetofte, Bregentved, Rosendal and Gavnø.

In year 1900, 200 workers were employed by the limestone quarry. A quarry worker usually came from a family of quarry workers. He began working in the quarry, when he got married. With a bit of luck, by the age of 40-50, he could save enough money to buy a small farm.

In the Limestone Quarry: Wear shoes with solid soles. If you want to collect fossils, a hammer and chisel are good aids (can be rented at the Geomuseum Faxe and Faxe Youth Hostel). Please do not climb on the limestone piles, as they could fall in, and keep your distance from any machinery that is in use. The sun can be very sharp, so be sure to bring water, sunscreen, sunglasses or a hat, when you go into the quarry.

Blåbæk Mills

Address: Blåbækvej 3, 4640 Faxe

This water mill was first mentioned in 1472 and since then has been a tenant farm of Rosendal.

It received its water from Faxe Brook; however, since there was not always sufficient water, the windmill was added in 1828. The mill's masticator and millstone were operated by a wheel; the other mill was a ramming mill, so the end product was ground to a unique consistency.

In addition, the mill operated a saw for the processing of timber beams. Both mills were shut down in 1953.

六、历史文化

The name Fakse is Old Norse and means "horse mane", probably a reference to its location on a long hill. The town is mentioned in 1280. The first church was built in 1440.

A narrow gauge railway line opened between the quarry and Faxe Ladeplads in 1865. The Østbanen railway line opened in 1879.

On 1 January 2007 Faxe municipality, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), came into existence by merging the three former municipalities of Haslev, Fakse, and Rønnede.
