三、经济发展和规模

Assens is undergoing with the new development plan. Here we have a historic market town with lots of well-preserved cultural environments and with nature and landscape experiences, coastline and an active harbor with both business and tourism very close. We hope that private investors can see the potential and will play a part in the development plan. We are, among other things, planning the first construction fields at the city-owned port, which opens the way for investors to build attractive housing. An analysis has shown that there is great potential for apartments in the city of Assen, concludes the committee chairman for Environment, Technology and Plan Dan Gørtz.

In the spring of 2018, the municipality of Assens became part of Realdania's project “Capital cities at the forefront” and received support to make a development plan for the city of Assens. The opening move, which is about establishing a new port site, a modern gathering place with library and other activities - a multitek - and building opportunities for private investors, was adopted by the City Council in February 2019. Subsequently, the municipality of Assens applied for Realdania for the opening move - and was given a commitment. about 10 million DKK in support against self-financing of the same amount.

The project 'Future Assens' is a development plan for the city of Assens, which was adopted by the City Council in June 2019. The goal of the development plan is to retain and attract citizens, tourists, traders and investors by developing the city and facing the city.

四、产业特点重点项目

Today the town still has a small shipyard, a few metallurgical and chemical factories and the Vestfyen brewery. The sugar factory was closed in 2006. In 2007, the public sector benefited from Assens position as the seat of the new Assens Municipality.

Companies headquartered in Assens Municipality include the Carl Hansen & Søn furniture manufacturer in Aarup.

The municipality of Assens is one of the strongest commercial municipalities in Funen. Simultaneously opens up the favorable regional development and good economic cycles for an untapped potential. To fulfill the ambitions and to exploit the potential for growth, the municipality  put in efforts and concrete actions under five strategic pillars. The five columns are described in the following sections policy.

A modern library - a 'multitek' - and a new port site are underway in Assens. The goal is to better connect the city and the port. Realdania has pledged support of DKK 10 million. In the second phase of the initiative, “Capital cities at the forefront”, which focuses on creating renewed life and positive development in the city center.

Modern multitek

The Library of Assens is moving from its current location to the multi-library and will be designed as a modern library and cultural venue, where the classic library activities are conceived with other activities in learning, art and culture.

Among other things, also being a café area and multimedia zone, so the area appeals to a broader audience than the traditional library user.

That's about half - approx. 1250 square meters - of the building to be converted into multitek at this time.

New port area

The overall goal of the new port site is to create a central and active hub and improve the connection between the beautiful inner market town and the vibrant and experiential harbor environment.

In addition, there must be a clear architectural and functional connection between the port site and the multitek, and it should be borne in mind that the events that are already taking place in the port area will continue to benefit from the new port site for various activities.

The upcoming port site will, as opposed to now, be free of traffic, as Søndre Ringvej will be redirected as part of the opening move. That part stands for the municipality of Assen itself.

五、风景名胜

Vor Frue Church

5.png

Address: Damgade 17, 5610 Assens

The Church of Our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke) in Assens is the second largest church in the island of Funen.

The Holevad chapel along the north wall of the church and the tower’s square lower section are the remains of a Romanesque church.

In addition to the name – after the Virgin Mary – there are reminders of the church’s Catholic era in the form of a reliquary – now located on the right side of the altar – and a stoup, built into the wall of the chapel of rest (mortuary), which was once the church’s porch (around 1500).

In 1488, the church was completed in its present Gothic form – inclusive of the octagonal 48-metre tower (the only one of its kind in Denmark, on a par with the five towers of Kalundborg Church).

Assens Mini-Village/Assens Miniby

6.png

Address: Ramsherred 52, 5610 Assens

Assens Mini-Village was founded in the early 1990s when five Assens residents decided to launch activities that could benefit Assens Municipality, particularly in terms of tourism. One of the activities marked the founding of Assens Mini-Village.

The first mini-village project was the small cooking house on the waterfront, built according to original drawings into an exact replica.

The mini-village concept arose more than thirty years ago.

Varde was the first town in Denmark to initiate this type of project. Today, a number of mini-villages have been started in and around Denmark.

Some say that if you don’t know your own history there is no future, which is what makes mini-village projects valuable as presenters of history.

More than sixty houses have been built since the founding in 1990.

The work is performed in a mini-bricklaying workshop.

Here more than a dozen senior citizens have built the small houses which are correct down to the last detail.

 六、历史文化

Assens town was first mentioned in 1231 in King Valdemar (1170-1241) Jordebog as Asnæs, which means "headland with a stand of ash and aspen." It probably became a market town in the 13th century. The ferry, which probably originated in the Middle Ages, became particularly significant in the 16th century with sizeable cattle exports.

In 1524 achieves Assens municipal charter by King Frederik first. During the count feud going on between 1534 and 1536, the town virtually razed and pillaged by King Christian 3's troops after the Battle of Øksnebjerg in 1535th

Originally Assens surrounded by a wall, but by 1535 it was demolished. Assens was under King Christian 4 (1577-1648) fortified, this time with ramparts and moats.

During the Swedish Wars in 1658 Assens again sacked, this time it was by Swedish troops. The Swedish troops during the harsh winter passed across the ice on the Little Belt Jutland. The town was hard hit by the Swedish Wars in the 17th century, causing a reduction in trade. It nevertheless continued to be the main ferry link between Jutland and Funen.

In the Middle Ages onwards was Assens the main crossing point to Schleswig, and it was thus a hub for the traffic there was between Copenhagen and Hamburg.

In the 19th century saw great changes in Assens. Assens got a proper harbor in 1820, a gasworks in 1855 and a rail link between Assens and Tommerup in 1884, which made it possible to get from Assens to Odense. The rail link between Assens and Tommerup closed for 1980.

Due to the loss of Jutland in 1864, the ferry connection between Jutland and Funen set, and it was first opened back in 1920 and was used until 1972.

In 1917 collector Harald Plum Thorø little outside Assens, where he builds Thorø Farm. Harald Plum was born and raised in Assens, where his father and uncle for several years had been great merchants.

Around 1935, the Old Little Belt Bridge built. That meant Assens lost some its importance as a link between Funen and Jutland. Although Assens remained one of the main ferry places between Jutland and Funen led the New Bridge (Old Little Belt) and bad trading trends, the city's development started to go a little stuck in the middle of the 20th century.

Prosperity returned at the end of the 18th century, increasing in the 19th century after a new harbour was completed in 1822. However the railway to Middelfart in 1865 provided considerable competition but the town suffered above all from the discontinuation of the ferry service after Southern Jutland was lost to the Germans in 1864.

At the end of the 19th century, there were few industries in Assens, the main source of income still being trade and crafts. In 1884, however, the railway to Tommerup linked Assens to Odense and in 1885, the harbour was extended with a new dock. A sugar factory was established, providing over 300 jobs by the end of the century. There was also a marked increase in population.

With reunification after the First World War, the ferry to Southern Jutland was reopened and ran until 1972. The sugar factory remained the main source of employment but a number of smaller metal foundries and food companies were established. Like most of Funen's other towns, Assens remained in the shadow of Odense, recording only modest growth. Its population grew only slightly, from around 4,600 in 1901 to 5,800 in 2004.

On 1 January 2007 the former Assens municipality was merged with Glamsbjerg, Haarby, Tommerup, Vissenbjerg and Aarup municipalities to form a new Assens municipality. This was part of the Kommunalreformen ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007). The former Assens municipality was formed in 1966 by combining the even-then existing Assens Municipality with seven other smaller municipalities located around it.

Assens has a very talented Boys Choir consisting of 18 boys between the ages of 9 and 14 years and 17 young men and adult singers. The choir was established in 1856, however the tradition of using boys to sing in the church of Assens goes back to the 15th Century. This choir is the oldest of its type in Denmark. The Assens Boy Singers perform about 20 concerts a year in such countries as England, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, The Czech Republic, Ireland, Brazil, Canada and the U.S. Most recently, they performed in Rome, Italy.
