Ⅱ.Natural Geography (environment and resources)
Krosno is on the river Wisłok. Slovakia is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) south, and Ukraine is about 85 kilometres (53 mi) east of the city. It is located in the heartland of the Doły (Pits), and its average altitude is 310 metres (1,020 ft) above sea level, although there are some hills located within the confines of the city.
Neighbouring municipalities are: Korczyna, Krościenko Wyżne, Miejsce Piastowe, Chorkówka, Jedlicze, and Wojaszówka.
Situated in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship (since 1999), previously it was the capital of Krosno Voivodeship (1975–1998). It is the capital of Krosno County.
Krosno covers an area of 45 km2 (17 sq mi), and has seven separate town quarters and 5 housing estates. The historical centre is situated on a hill between the fork of the Lubatówka and Wisłok Rivers (tributary of the San River).
Transport
Krosno is located in the southern part of the Sub-Carpathian Voivodeship region. The National road no. 28 bisects the town and the National road no. 19 traverses some 5 kilometers on the outskirts of the town. Within the perspective of 2025, the expressway S-19 is to be built in close proximity to Krosno and will form a significant part of the “Via Carpathia” trans-European transport corridor, leading from Lithuania to Greece along the eastern border of the European Union. Access to this expressway would mean for Krosno a faster and more convenient connection with Rzeszów, the Voivodeship’s regional administration headquarters, and also with the rest of the country.
There is a local airfield in Krosno, equipped with a modern asphalt and concrete runway, which is 1100 long and 30 m wide and features a lighting system to facilitate aircraft landing during hours of low light or darkness. The infrastructure facilities are designed to perform flight operations for aircraft with a wingspan of 24 meters, which can carry up to 45 passengers on board, such aircraft being, for example, the ATR -42, Cessna Citation Jet M2, Cessna Caravan, Saab 340, Beechcraft King Air C-90 and AN-28. One of the airfield’s primary functions is to provide a service for business flights and air taxis.

- Krosno also accommodates the national Railway line no. 108, Stróże to Krościenko (state border line) which passes through the town.
- The prime location of Krosno near the borders of Slovakia and the Ukraine is an obvious advantage, providing business people an easy access to suppliers, customers and employees from neighbouring countries.
Ⅲ.Economy
- Krosno is located in an oil bearing region. Surface seepage of oil was locally used (unrefined) in lamps as early as the 16th century. In the 19th century Ignacy Łukasiewicz a local pharmacist began exploiting the deposits from hand-dug wells, years before the drilling at Titusville, Pennsylvania which is usually said to be the beginning of modern petroleum development.

Ⅳ.Industrial Characteristics
Krosno is a strong industrial and service centre, featuring a high variety of sectors. The main industrial sectors, which form the basis of the local economy, are founded on rich traditions, experienced staff and continuous implementation of innovations.
AVIATION
- As the centre of the “Aviation Valley”, Krosno provides special opportunities for development of this sector.
- In Krosno sub-assemblies for landing gear for civil and military aircraft are produced. There are also numerous companies specializing in machining of metals and manufacturing parts for aviation industry.
- Krosno is also the centre of manufacture of ultra-light aircraft.
- FURNITURE INDUSTRY
- Furniture manufacturing is one of the best developing industrial sectors in the Sub-Carpathian region.
- Companies from Krosno produce office furniture, bathroom and kitchen furniture and furniture for children as well as billiard tables and upholstered furniture.
GLASS-MAKING INDUSTRY
- The history of glass making in Krosno dates back to the 20s of the previous century. It is the only glass-making centre in Poland whose location is not based on the deposits of glass-making sands but on the source of energy – the local deposits of natural gas. Krosno is one of Europe’s largest centres of manufacture of utility, ornamental and domestic glassware, as well as glass fibre. Dozens of businesses connected with glass manufacture and decorating function in the town and its surroundings.
PETROLEUM (OIL AND GAS) INDUSTRY
- In 1854, in Bóbrka, not far from Krosno, Ignacy Łukasiewicz and his partners started oil production on the world’s first oil field. It was here that the industry was born, which has been the drive of the world enormous civilizational progress. Until today, there are factories in Krosno which manufacture devices used in oil and gas production, units used on drilling platforms, steel structures of state of the art facilities for oil and gas industry.
