II.Natural Geography
₋ Fairbury is a city and county seat of Jefferson County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 3,942 at the 2010 census.
₋Fairbury has been closely connected with railroading for much of its history. It was founded on the projected route of a railway, and grew as a shipping center. For nearly 80 years, it was the location of the Western Division headquarters of the Rock Island Railroad. Fairbury prospered with the Rock Island, and lost business and residents as the railroad declined.
₋Transportation
Although the Rock Island no longer operates, Fairbury is still served by the Union Pacific Railroad. U.S. Highway 136 and Nebraska Highway 15 intersect in the city. It is 44 miles (71 km) from Interstate 80, the nearest Interstate highway. Fairbury Municipal Airport has a concrete runway long enough to land a small private jet, and a shorter turf runway.
III.ECONOMY
₋Thirteen manufacturing plants, with a total of 475 employees, are located in and near Fairbury. The largest among these are Endicott Clay Products, producing brick and tile in nearby Endicott, with 200 employees; Prairie View Industries, producing stainless steel and aluminum handicap ramps and food service equipment, with 80 employees; Fairbury Food Products, with 54 employees; and Tetra Micronutrients, manufacturing micronutrients for use in fertilizer and animal feed, with 47 employees. Other major local employers include Jefferson Community Health Center (193 employees), Fairbury Public Schools (154 employees), the City of Fairbury (120 employees), Farmers Co-op Elevator Co. (118 employees), and Heritage Nursing Home (90 employees).
₋Fairbury serves as the retail center of Jefferson County. The historic downtown continues to prosper, with a variety of specialty shops. Major retailing has tended to move toward the northeastern edge of the city, with the first Wal-Mart in Nebraska opening in 1982; with the move of Wal-Mart to a larger location, its site was redeveloped as an indoor mall. Other franchised business such as Dollar General, Orscheln Farm & Home, and Ace Hardware, have also located on the northeast.

V.Attractions
1. Rock Creek Station State Historical Park
₋Rock Creek Station Rock Creek Station was a stage and Pony Express station established in 1857 that become notorious one fateful day in 1861. On that July afternoon, James Butler Hickok killed David McCanles there and began his bloody career as a gunfighter.
₋Development of Rock Creek Station as a state historical park began in 1980. Archaeologists investigated and excavated sites of two ranches dating back to the 1858-1860 time period to determine building sites and to recover period artifacts. Some buildings have since been reconstructed.
₋Today, Rock Creek is a state historical park encompassing 350 acres of prairie hilltops, timber-studded creek bottoms, and rugged ravines. Deep ruts, carved by the many wagons that traveled the Oregon and California trails remain plainly visible at this picturesque park. Rich history and beautiful scenery draw visitors from near and far.

2.Crystal Springs Park
₋The The 73-acre park just south of Fairbury offers recreation and a variety of wildlife viewing opportunities in a location that is less than five miles from civilization.
₋Two spring-fed lakes and a third man-made pond provide fishing opportunities for visitors. A variety of fish, from large-mouth bass to catfish and blue gill, are available for catching at Crystal Springs. Trout have also been stocked.
₋Crystal Springs also includes campgrounds with RV hook-ups, picnic areas and playground equipment.
₋Birdwatching is also a main attraction of Crystal Springs, as many varieties of migrating birds have been seen at the park. Bald eagles have been seen at the park, attracting birdwatchers. Beauty and serenity surround you for a day or a week.

3.Fairbury City Park
₋The Fairbury City Park plays host to the largest flea market in Nebraska, The July 4th Flea Market. Each year during the July 4th holiday, thousands of visitors come to the Fairbury City Park to shop the hundreds of vendors displaying their goods. At the July 4th Flea Market you’ll find everything from antiques, collectibles, furniture, new merchandise, architectural pieces, not to mention a huge variety of food and beverages. The flea market starts at dawn, and features a Shriners Parade at 10 am. The day ends with a huge fireworks display at dusk.
₋Located on the southwest side of the Fairbury City Park. The Frontier Fun Park is the first of its kind in the state of Nebraska, built in 1995 and funded entirely by community volunteers. If you have children, this is a stop along the Trail that you won’t want to miss. Constructed entirely of wood at the hands of Fairbury locals, this fantasy playground recreates the excitement of a pioneer town in the Old West.
₋Fairbury City Park in Fairbury, Nebraska is home to the Fairbury Softball Complex. The Fairbury Softball Complex features a state-of-the-art clover leaf design, with four lighted fields with all-season infield playing surfaces and two adjacent practice fields. The complex also has a newly-updated restroom addition and full concessions on site, plus picnic shelter and play areas.
₋The Fairbury Municipal Swimming Pool was built in 1946 and refurbished in 2009. The Fairbury Pool measures 150′ X 50′ approx. and holds 300,000 gallons of water. The depth ranges from 3 ft in the shallow end to 12 ft in the deep end. The Fairbury Pool features two wading pools for small children, two waterslides and two diving boards. The pool is fully-staffed with a minimum of two lifeguards on duty at all times. There are showers, restrooms and lockers available to store clothing and valuables. There is a concession stand and a picnic shelter/gazebo on site.

VI.History
₋Fairbury was made a station on the St.Joseph & Denver City Railroad that was built through the county at that time.
₋In 1873 a fire-proof building was erected for use as a courthouse, the first brick building in Fairbury. A "proper courthouse" was built on the public square in 1892
